It's the last week of school before the holidays – thus the pace has quickened. Parties, exams, shopping, vacations – all happening at the quietest time of the year. The snow invites us to cozy up under warm blankets & the long nights invite us to sleep + rest more. Yet, it's a busy time, filled with laughter, feasts, music, & sparkling lights + drinks.
I've been experimenting with this duality since Thanksgiving really & for once, I'm not too dizzy from all this activity. I sleep, I cuddle under warm blankets, I drink hot chocolate & I plan receptions. It's fun! I do much less this year and I prefer this by far to the other years where we returned from the holidays exhausted + sickly.
Maybe the shift comes from me slowing down since the month of July when I quit the corporate lifestyle & embraced entrepreneurship. My health + well-being have become a priority for the success of my business. And the better I feel, the more sensitive I am to what I need at all levels.
This is having noticeably favorable effects on my immediate family as well as on my capacity for happiness. The level of stress in the household, even during this frantic time of the year, is basically gone. We've kept things simple so that there is plenty of space to do the most important tasks. The atmosphere is agreeable yet quiet. And we enjoy even more the things we do. By taking it slow, we give ourselves the opportunity to connect more together & to generate a very homey atmosphere in the house.
What is one of your self-care rituals that you do during the holidays? Tell me, I'd love to know!
